Go Pro Hero. We find ourselves filming often with our Go Pro setup. There's nothing like having an amazing surf day and getting home to review you footage. Improving your pop, stance, turns, and awareness is easy when you can analyze your mistakes and successes. I had a very difficult time going left (I'm regular footed) due to bad knees. Using days and days of footage I realized the few successes I had were due to positioning and taking a lower drop-knee approach. (I can go right all day, Dan call's my left "La Tortuga" because of how low I have to get). There are plenty of sites/stores to buy your own Go Pro and I highly recommend picking up an older model if you're just getting started. There are also some comparable products, namely: monoprices "Action" camera, found through the button link below:
Thule Hang Two surfboard rack. I love mine. It's simple to use, quick to install, and makes daily surfing easier and quicker to get to. I have no problems throwing two 3" thick boards on top though the straps are very hard to get tight if pushing beyond this. The only other limitation is the amount of space it takes up on the roof. There is literally no way to put two sets of these on your roof with a standard roof rack. If you have the extended long arms it may be possible. Here it is on my Edge.
This is the book that started it all for us here at Surf Organic Boards. George Orbelian's book is one of the best reads for beginning shapers/surfers. This book will show you not only how to shape, common designs, fin setups, resin mixing, and glassing but also how to read the tide and winds. The biggest problem we have found with new surfers is that they buy the wrong board for themselves, have trouble getting up, have trouble paddling, and eventually sell their gear on craigslist. Don't let this happen to you, get this book cheap and learn what's best for you. Alternatively you can email us and we will help you find the best board for you, even if it's not one of ours. This book never leaves our shop and you'll find yourself reading it many times as well.
